X’mas in Maldives

26 Dec 2006 — Merry Christmas everyone! May your homes and hearts be filled with warm fuzzy love this holiday season!

Here’s us spa chicks with Carsten, our German GM.

I know I’m a day late, but there are 12 days to Chrissy, and my excuse, well, in the hospitality industry, public holidays don’t really mean that much ‘cos you’re still working. Having said that, I did experience the warmth of the season though. Yep, at first, with it being Christmas, and being far from family and friends, I did feel a pang of homesickness, and even had a little sob in the shower on Christmas eve. Wished I was with my Billie instead of a whole bunch of strangers. But as it turned out, rather than resisting it, I let myself go with the flow, and at the end, I can quite honestly say I did enjoy myself, and yes, the festivities passed most pleasantly. I remember going to bed last night with a feeling of contentment, content with the simplicity of the moment.

So what actually happened on the island? Well on the eve, there was like a huge celebration for the guests and staff alike, with a really awesome buffet spread, some magic show, a fashion parade put up by the Italian boutique girls, showcasing our very own staff as the “models”, followed by disco fever. In my own way, I also partied — had my very first slice of pizza since coming and also whacked the desserts, yep, creme brulee, log cake and all! Also joined the Japanese girls at Rangali bar for cocktails and the fashion parade.

Some pictures of course:

one of the many trees around the resort, actually what’s the tree supposed to signify leh?

my roommates: Yukie (centre) and Hiromi (right) who are guest relations officers + Yukari, diving instructor (left). All very nice!

Pon (left) and Soi (right): Thai chefs — also very narak, and the food they cook is aroy-mahk-mahk!

Let me show you more food…

…starting with the bread bar — very jialat! you all know how much of a bread queen I am right?!! day after day I have to garner the strength to stay away from this evil table!!! but yes, check out the variety, and this is not all, I never even show you the even more sinful brioche, croissant, doughnuts and danishes of all shapes and sizes!

the Italian counter — another place I have to avoid on a daily basis

the Indian counter — the freshly cooked chicken tikka are the best, especially with some yoghurt dip!

the more friendly sushi and sashimi counter — my staples, oishi

fresh seafood counter, and you see that big fish on the top? it’s real!!! yep, here at the resort we actually have our own fishermen who literally go out to sea everyday to bring in the catch, so seafood is always always fresh and tasty! my favourite’s the scallops! everyday I eat scallops, grilled and yakitori!

other random treats

and of course the dessert spread, complete with real gingerbread house

but enough about food (oh really?…)! Here we are at the Rangali bar where the party continues…

lounging on the deck

Let the show begin! Whoo-hoo!

More spa staff: Matte the receptionist + Thai spa therapists
