Speedpost

25 Feb 2007 — You know what is better than receiving a parcel filled with goodies? Receiving a parcel filled with goodies when you are stranded on an island!!! OMG…. I was absolutely thrilled to receive my Speedpost 10kg box lovingly put together by Ah Bi and my parents!!! I squealed with delight when I got the call from stores to say that it’s arrived. In record time too, it took only about a week to reach me, not too bad for this resort’s standards. Apparently some packages take up to a month to arrive. Having said that, Billie did spend S$101 on postage alone! But every cent was definitely well spent!

Without further ado, let’s get to it! Mai tu liao!

Oh wow… so exciting…

Yes, yes, I spot a pair of back Havaianas!!!! Yay!!!

I was so worried ‘cos the pair I’ve got on (which my mum gave me) was about to give way anytime. Black slippers are part of our uniform, unfortunately my humongous feet of size 8.5 to 9 could not fit into their largest size 7 pair. A blessing in disguise really ‘cos all the girls complain it’s damn uncomfy! But what that means is that if my slippers had pichar, I would really have had to go to work barefooted!

See, I wasn’t lying. Really very jialat oredi. So mama, you can see I’ve put it to goood use.

What else? what else? Very greedy!

So here’s the entire loot. And as you can see, in addition to vitamins and essential oils, there’s lots of pretty mundane stuff that I’ve requested, ‘cos you bloody hell can’t get any of these stuff here at the resort!

Things like clothes pegs for my laundry…

…adaptors…

…and yum… instant Nestum oat drinks!

In addition…

Ah hah! My Japanese language books. Haha, Heather, the Korean girl, and I have been saying we should learn Japanese so that when we have our usual Coconut Meeting with the rest of the gang, we can just gossip away in Jap. Especially ‘cos we KNOW people are constantly trying to listen in, like when the Rangali Bar boys’ service suddenly becomes so much better, and they are constantly hovering over you clearing glasses, getting you another drink… yah right.

And as for surprises (I totally expected a surprise!), wow… Billie really delivered, no pun intended. He’s so cute, he told me ‘cos I don’t seem to get to see a lot of animals on the island, other than the tuna in the sea (or at the buffet counter), he sent me a whole “animal-themed” package. A theme? A theme?!? Ah Bi actually came up with a theme?!! Wow, that’s REALLY impressive hey? All that hanging out with me the last 11 years must have rubbed off on him… FINALLY!

So there was this whole stack of animal photos… there was Bubble and Bodhi… but also a whole bunch of Aussie animals like an echidna, an alpaca and a kookaburra, and lots of cats that we encountered overseas. And also a few of himself. Oh… brought back so many memories… very jialat too cause I was in the office, had to try sooo hard to hold back tears. No… not cause I was embarrassed someone might see me cry, I had makeup on, and I so didn’t want to have to redo it! Bad enuff I have to put it on once in the morning!

Then there was a teeny tiny box from the Metropolitan museum… ooh… jewellery?

Oh well, not quite. But can’t complain. The man’s got a theme!

Besides, he was prepared. He enlisted the help of a certain Monchhichi, how to resist?!! I’m such a sucker. And this says a lot about our relationship, 30 and my husband still gives me stuff toys! Haha!

Oh, it was really really nice to have received all these things, but you know what else? The box was brimming over with fluffy love from home. That was the best! So yes, people, I know email is so convenient, but from time to time, send someone an actual snailmail or a surprise parcel, there is really nothing like it!
