Philips Hair Dryer Contest

I’m proud to announce that my dad has just won a Philips Hairdryer contest. Here’s his e-mail to me to announce the happy news, and following that the story he submitted to Philips. He’s so funny and cute.

Hi Girl,

Believe it or not. This little good news came before William’s better news.

I received a phone call at about 11.00am today informing me that I had won a $99.00 Philips Salon Protect Hairdryer.

Imagined my surprised. I never ever, last thing to think about winning any prize in a contest. What more a short story of a ‘ Hairdryer experience ‘ (attached is the story) Knowing your dad ‘powderful England’. Always being corrected by mum or you everytime, most of the time and all the time.

Not bad heh! After god knows how long ago. My last prize collected was in which year? That contest was to guess the height of ‘King Kong’. At that time Cathay Theatre was playing “King Kong” and you had to guess the height of a polyfoam 3-D statue of the gorilla and I had won first prize. I remembered it was a $350.00 Yaohan voucher.

Now this short writing contest was in the ST supplement ‘Urban’ dated 25/08/2005 and today my name appeared in the same supplement together with another 4 more winners. They even email me to collect the prize between 01/09/05 - 08/09/05 at their Toa Payoh office. So fast
can collect prize and within a week of the contest. So lucky. He! he!

I think the 3rd lucky news is coming soon. Maybe it is for you? Everythings come in threes.

Love from dad.

URBAN/PHILIPS HAIR DRYER CONTEST

We are a family of four with a cat and a dog. We own a total of 5 hair dryers. We had already outlived 2 pieces.

Our first hair dryer was bought in 30/05/1975 at Japanese Garden Electronic Supermarket. It was a Philips and the model: HP 4118 cost us $15.00.

One was not enough, so we bought a Moulinex for $12.00 in 31/12/1976. I can’t remember when the 2 dryers left us, but following that we had 3 more as housewarming gifts.

We still have them and they are still in good working conditions:

FN (1200W Hairdryer) Model: CH 1201A
Philips (Silence 1000) Model: HP 4349
Ellane (Ellane 1200) Model: EH-1200

My daughter personally like the Philips Silence 1000. The Ellane 1200 is still not in used yet. The FN 1200W is only a standby.

In the bathroom, we use another Philips hair dryer daily. Philips (Satin Cool 1200) Model: HP 4807 bought in 15/11/1997 for $22.00 at the Philips annual fair in Toa Payoh.

My daughter left for Sydney 5 years ago with her dog ‘ Bubble ‘. But she send Bubble back alone 3 years ago. I had to care and of course bathe her weekly. I used the hair dryers - Philips Satin and FN. It was very frustrating because every time the dryers get hot, it stopped. I had to switch between the 2 pieces and spend almost an hour each time drying Bubble’s fur.

After almost 3 years of frustration, I decided to make use of my birthday angpows this year and I got a Philips Powerprotect salon 2000, model: HP 4877/00 for $79.00 at Harvey Norman (WestMall). It is one of the best hair dryer I had ever used so far. Should have got it earlier. Now drying Bubble is a breeze as I spend less time drying her fur. It is so powerful that it dries our hair within seconds especially mine as I have very few hair.

I would highly recommend anyone who are not professional hair dresser but want a professional piece of equipment for drying hair to buy the Philips 2000 range.

Drying is a breeze.

I have always believe in Philips products. My first Philips product was a Philips 90RL070 radio for $17.50 bought in 01/07/1968 from Benteng (12 Collyer Quay).

I still have receipts as proof of purchase if you need to verify the story. (??? from 1968???)

Thank you for taking time to read my e-mail.

Yours sincerely,
Wee Gim Leong

I my search for info about my hairdryer, which I bought second hand, I stumbled upon your blog entry. I have an orange Philips HP 4118. Do you know for what cause I bought it? My phone and internet connection wall outlet was attached to the wall that gets damp when it is wet outside. So at times I had problems with my telephone connection. I bought the hairdryer to make the outlet dry again! But at last i just disconnected the wall outlet from the wall and the problems ceased.
Now I occasionally use the hair dryer for what it is made: drying hair.
