Last Day @GNC

30 July 2005 — Yay! Finally my last day at GNC! Even though I’m just a casual staff, it has taken me more than a month to quit the place! Sometimes being good at your job, hardworking and responsible can be a real disadvantage. Especially if you’re like me, weak and feeble, dunno how to say “NO”. Mark, my manager, just refuses to let me go, keep gei-gei, tu tu tu. And even now I fear it’s not final. He has oredi hinted to me that he might still need me next Friday?!? I can feel it, GNC is just gonna leach onto me forever…

So why do I want to quit so badly? ‘Cos I’m sick and tired of the freaking pain! I’ve had a sore knee that comes and goes for a couple of years, but recently with the job (which requires me to stand on my feet for 6-8 hours per day) the pain has gotten so bad that basically when I get home, I can’t even stand up. I literally have to be seated all the time. And when the weekends come, same thing, instead of thinking “what would I really like to do”, my first thought is “what can I do that is not going to cause too much pain?” Like HELLO?! I’m not some 80 year old ah-por, I’m in my prime, I can’t let this knee drag me down like dat!

And I think my acupuncturist almost slapped me in the head when he heard what I was doing. He was like “here I am trying to treat you, but the moment you step out of my door, you undo everything I just did!” And I thought ya hor, here I am working at GNC ‘cos I need the money, but at $65 per pop of acupuncture, I’m basically spending all my pay on an occupational hazard?!? It’s a damn vicious cycle! I WANT OUT!

Anyway, so today is supposed to be my official last day. It’s a Saturday, and I work by myself on Saturdays. Hee hee, perfect for taking those “无喱头 last day pictures“! So I got William to come in and help me out.

Monday was the last day that I actually worked with other people, including Mark. And even though I’m actually quite fond of the guy, man, I’ve just got to say it, he’s so cheapie! First of all, he asked me “Oh, it’s your last day, should I buy you some chocolates?” Huh?!? Where got ask people like dat one? If you really want to buy, just buy right? If you ask me, of course I’m going to say no, which was exactly what I did. “No lah, no lah, no need.” To which he replied, “Are you sure? You don’t want chocolates? What do you want? How about supplements? Would you like some supplements?” To which he proceeded to look at the pile of REJECTED products which customers had brought back due to one complaint or another, and of course, most of them have already been opened and lying around for ages! Mark went, “let me see, what do we have? Multi? Fish Oil? Glucosamine?…” I was thinking, “You can’t be serious…” Five minutes later, he left the shop, saying he’ll be back in a while. And I thought, “Ah finally! He’s going to get me a pack of chockies from the supermarket after all. 算他还有一点良心.” But no… he came back munching on a pack of fries and asked me if I wanted some?!? And for this, I put up with my knee pain?!? I’m SO outta here!
