Gratitude Chest

Gratitude unlocks the fullness of life. It turns what we have into enough, and more. It turns denial into acceptance, chaos to order, confusion to clarity. It can turn a meal into a feast, a house into a home, a stranger into a friend. - Melody Beattie

Unlikely Encounter

Saturday, July 23rd, 2005

21 July 2005 - I’m so glad I went to work today. Cause who should walk by but Jacinta!!! I must have squealed when I saw her. Yes, and this time I remembered to ask her for her name straight away. Not so blur like the last time, chatted on for half hour at least before she left, but still didn’t know her name. I was hoping to see her before I left GNC for good, and it turns out she has been looking for me too.

So who’s Jacinta? She was originally “Mike’s customer” but she came in one day when he wasn’t around and I ended up serving her. We hit it off like a house on fire! Strange how easily Singaporeans and Malaysians click when we’re away from home. There was an instant “attraction”, and we rattled on about our lives as if we’ve been friends for forever. And there was something else that united us — hee hee, we both understood how important it is to lose weight before going home. So tragic when people from home gasp and tell you you’re so fat whenever they see you. No, better maintain the illusion that we have effortlessly maintained our weight despite years of eating pizza and burgers.

So yes, this time we’ve exchanged numbers, and though I hardly know her, I get this feeling that I’m really going to like her. Yay! Always nice to meet a new kaki, gawd knows I haven’t had much luck there. Friends yes, but a real kaki-kaki is so hard to come by here. Ivy was the closest thing, but then she went home!!! William says the way I go on about Jacinta, you’d think I was in love!?! Hmm… 原来 GNC is a place for me to pick up unsuspecting 小妹妹?!?

Sheer Luck with Managers

Friday, July 15th, 2005

14 July 2005 - Having worked at GNC for almost a year, I thought it’s time to pay tribute to the managers I’ve worked under, ESPECIALLY after working with Alissa yesterday!

Boy is she a tight-ass?!? She’s the manager from the Miranda branch, standing in for Mark as he rests after his colonoscopy ordeal. Effectually she’s only at North Sydney for 4 days, and effectually I only worked with her for 1 hour 15 minutes, boy, were they the longest 1 hour 15 mins I have ever spent at GNC.

Breakfast at Billy’s

Tuesday, July 12th, 2005

26 June 2005 - breakfast on Sunday morning with Kate and hubby Mark at Billy’s Cafe — how much better can life get?

that morning, Wil had the Big Breakfast - a mountain of grilled mushrooms, scrambled eggs, Turkish toast, baked beans, bacon rashes and sausages. I had raisin toast with vegemite — the others thought I was weird?!? but sweet and saltish are the best combo! (sorry, no pics, gulped down the food before we had the chance to take them, mebbe next time…)

Alvin’s Scary Ford

Saturday, July 2nd, 2005

2 July 2005 - hah! the other thing to be grateful for today is that Alvin has just left for Singapore this afternoon - lucky b@$t#%d! not only was he so kind to bring back stuff for my grandma, my mother, and Wendy, he once again left us his very scary car. Actually, the car itself isn’t all that scary, just prone to breaking down. But I associate it with the word “scary” ‘cos all my experiences in it have been pretty terrifying. most times because it’s Alvin behind the wheel, very scary! I always protect the car, its passengers and especially myself with Archangel Michael’s blue ray when travelling with him. better safe than sorry. That aside, how nice to be picked up from school by my Billie. and finally we can go DFO, Five Dock fishburger, Willoughby Little Thai Hut, etc… the possibilities are endless!

My Pineapple Cutter

Saturday, July 2nd, 2005

2 July 2005 - I’m dedicating this blog to poo-poo, my pineapple cutter - because he very poor thing, of all things, his girlfriend 偏偏 likes to eat this horrendous fruit that is so hard to cut! so for all his efforts, this is to let him know that his tireless efforts have not gone unnoticed.

Smiley Nazi

Saturday, July 2nd, 2005

1 July 2005 - oh no, oredi running late, and who do I get when I got to the ticket counter? the Nazi ticket lady! nervously i ordered my weekly ticket from Chatswood to City. To my horror, the ticket came back “Roseville to City”. Shit! This means that I have to clarify with her… sure kanna scolded! But nooo… not only did she patiently explain to me that it costs the same price, so I actually get one more station for free, she even finished the sentence with a very 慈祥 motherly smile?!? FREAKY!

GNC May Comm

Friday, June 24th, 2005

23 June 2005 - for the month of May, we made target, so there was extra commission to share. After awarding all the full-timers $150 each, there was still $150 to share between the part-timers: me and Soph. Mark was going to split it 50-50. and Mike went “Dude!?!” and Mark went “Oh, yes, what was I thinking?” And in the end, I got $100 and Soph got $50. I also got an extra $124 in terms of personal comm. Yay yay yay!

Green Gourmet

Friday, June 24th, 2005

22 June 2005 - Green Gourmet: usually $6.50 for 3 dishes with rice, not only did the lao-ban give me extra green beans, he only charged me $5! I never get no shit extra from Green Gourmet, only Sumie does!
