Amy & Eric’s Engagement!
19 Nov 2005 — On Saturday, Sumie, Billie and myself were invited to Amy & Eric’s engagement. So exciting, our first since we arrived more than 4 years ago. But before heading off to the restaurant where the party was held, we first made a quick stop at their new home in Bankstown — first time too for all 3 of us. The house itself was really nice, new and comfy and very tastefully decorated. Oooh and it boasted a huge courtyard, great for BBQs and other gatherings. How envious, only in their early-early 20s, and the two of them are already homeowners, not tenants like Bi and I. Well, hopefully in a couple of years we also have somewhere to call our home, somewhere with walls we can legally nail hooks into…
But enough about us, today’s leads are Amy and Eric.

Both Sumie and I think they make a perfect couple, really compatible! And even though we’re not Amy’s parents, somehow today, both of us felt some sort of 感触 that “our little Amy” is now all grown up with a house and family of her own… (sigh of joy) So drama.
The party itself was small and intimate, just mainly relatives and only a handful of close friends — so Wil and I felt really privileged to be there. Here’s some photos:
Pretty colourful balloons were placed on every table of the party.

Here we are seated with Amy’s siblings and cousins. And strangely instead of seating with their parents, Amy and Eric sat with us — the official “young’uns” table.

Eric’s friends trying to get him drunk. They failed miserably…

The happy couple doing their rounds toasting all the guests. Hee hee, Amy was a rather reluctant participant.

Amy’s side of the family…

…and Eric’s side

…and us. The two whom you don’t recognise are Amy’s high school friend Helen and her partner. Oopsie, forgot his name. Helen’s really friendly and outgoing; she sat with us at the same table and kept us entertained for the night. Definitely a people-person. You go girl!
Interestingly, the food that was served was rather different from the typical dishes at Singaporean weddings. And of course for Sumie who was attending a Chinese banquet for the first time, it was definitely a gastronomic adventure!
For starters, this was the cold platter:

Apart from the “rubber-band” (jellyfish), the rest of the stuff are entirely different! More like stuff we would eat with kway-chap.
In addition, we also had:

Honey pork chop, black pepper beef, seafood beancurd hotpot…

… roast chicken…

… a really yummy deep-fried fish… and and and

… LOBSTER!!! Wouldn’t mind seeing this dish make more of an appearance at Singaporean weddings.

… and not forgetting the all-important dessert! The sugar-powdered pastry filled with lotus paste was especially delectable. I must have gasaked 6 at least! Heh heh in fact, Billie and I even shamelessly tah-paued some home.. What… No one else wanted them wat…
…but this wasn’t even all the food!?! Some unphotographed items include a vegie dish, fish maw soup, fruit platter, and a red bean soup dessert. Despite that, at the end of the meal, Eric’s dad still came round to ask if there was enough food to eat. Wah lao Uncle, you 夸张 or not?!? There was enough food to feed an army! Or in the very least another table!
And finally, before we called it a night, another round of photo-taking for all the raving beauties…
