24 Oct 2005 — Just a quick update on the present: Nothing much really, just been doing a lot of spring-cleaning. Well, it is Spring, but more importantly, we’re expecting guests this Friday. Haha, so of course must buck up lor! See so neat and tidy, all ready for Admund and Siew Yin.

Last Day in Hong Kong

Sunday, October 23rd, 2005

11 Sep 2005 - My last day in Hong Kong, and finally today being a Sunday, Peiling was able to join us, and so it was a girls’ day out! But the morning started with just Shihui and I on a trip to Stanley Bay, again an area that I’ve not been to before.

Fish & Flowers

Wednesday, October 19th, 2005

10 Sep 2005 — Yay! It’s the weekend at last, which means, I can spend the whole day with my friends, or Shihui at least, poor Peiling is still stuck in meetings, even on a Saturday! So the day begins with yum cha for brunch. Didn’t take pictures of the food, but what I did want you to see was this amazing struture in the middle of the restaurant that serves both as a fountain as well as a sculpture. And doesn’t it also resemble a red dragon swishing through the place, hmm… must have some auspicious meaning.

Anyway, after filling our tum-tums, it was off to the markets today! Yup, Shihui’s bringing me to both the fish and flower markets. Never been to these places in HK, supposedly more local, which is exactly what I’d like to see, so I’m really excited.

HK Disney Craze

Tuesday, October 18th, 2005

19 Oct 2005 — Hee hee, took a little break over the weekend, but I’m back blogging now. Oh, but not before I thank Sumie for the wonderful dinner she cooked us on Monday night (Potato Salad, Curry Chicken with Brown Rice, and Caramel Pudding) as well as the sweet engagement card and gorgeous bunch of calla lilies — just like her to always be so thoughtful and generous.

9 Sep 2005 — And back to HK… thought I’d take some pictures in the day to show you the views we get from the hotel room

Quite amazing hey? One side’s the port and the other’s the mountain.

Maggie the Magna

Friday, October 14th, 2005

14 October 2005 - Ah darn! It was my plan to keep our lives as dull, boring and uneventful as possible during this period so that I won’t have anything to blog about and hence won’t interrupt the process of catching up on the travelogues, but I guess there was no keeping mum about this.

Everyone, please welcome Maggie into the family! (Cue: Applause)

Yup, seeing how we’ll be in Sydney for another year more, William has gone ahead and got us our third OZ car. He basically got on the net, went to the dealer and got the first car he saw — all in a day. What happened to being patient while we wait for the right car to come along?!? That came from him ok, not me.

Oh well, Mrs B, our last car, a 1978 Merc Benz, was also an impulsive buy and we ended up having some real good times with her anyway, so hopefully this time around, things will be A-ok too!

So back to Maggie. She’s a 1995 automatic Mitsubishi Magna, and she comes with air-con, central locking, power mirrors and power steering! Her previous owner was a woman and so as you can see, the interior looks pretty clean too. Most importantly, no stale cigarette butt or stinky old man smell. All that for only A$1500! And for you die-hard gamblers, her license plate number is TPL362. Don’t say I never look out for you, and if really win, must cut us a share hor!

I guess now I really have to get off my butt and learn how to drive. The goal is to get my license by the time I leave Sydney!

N.B. On a separate note: for you true-blue romantics (Yes, I’m talking about you Sumie), you’ll be happy to know that I’ve added a new category to “My Picture Box” called “Getting Hitched” which will showcase our journey from proposal to honeymoon. The idea is to share these moments with all of you as the action unfolds. Photos of Billie’s surprise Proposal at V Tea Room are already up, so enjoy!

Arriving in Hong Kong

Friday, October 14th, 2005

7 Sep 2005 — Onward with my China tour, today I’m flying to Hong Kong to meet up with Peiling and Shihui. Yipee! As a semi-farewell thing (since I’ll be back after 2 weeks), Lynn and Tommy brought me to a steamboat place last night. So here we are again, doing what we do best.

Seeing how it was steamboat, which is very soupy and saucey, and may get potentially messy, the restaurant even provides its guests with little aprons. Don’t we look adorable?

And see, with some ingenuity, you can look like a milkmaid, just like Lynn!

Yuyuan

Thursday, October 13th, 2005

4 Sep 2005 - As promised, here we go again. We’ll just have to teleport ourselves back to Shanghai, Sep 4th. I remember it was a Sunday. So where were Tommy and I off to “today”? Yuyuan! No trip to Shanghai would be complete without it. Have a look and you’ll start to see why…

See, at Yuyuan you can find all these traditional buildings that have been restored to now house modern businesses, including…

…Starbucks and KFC!

Back at Last!

Tuesday, October 11th, 2005

11 October 2005 — Halloo Everyone! So sorry, really long long time never post any entries. As you all know I had that big China/HK/S’pore trip, then was only back for a couple of days before Wil and I scooted off for our Uluru & Cairns trip (which we now affectionately call our “engagemoon”). Just got back last night, and totally crashed! But it was an amazing trip! We’re so proud of ourselves, really got out of our comfort zones during this trip, doing stuff like hot-air ballooning (yikes!), swimming in gorges, and not just snorkelling, but even scuba-diving at the Great Barrier Reef! Yup, really outback hey?

So well the upside about the long absence is that now I have tons to tell you, and of course, lots and lots of pictures to show! Haha, you know we Asians never leave home without our cameras! But do bear with me, ‘cos there’s still all that other stuff from Hong Kong and Beijing, so I’ll be back-tracking a whole lot! But seeing how my days ahead here in Sydney won’t be half as exciting (except that Wil’s cousin, Admund, is coming end of the month), I’ll have plenty of time to play catch up. But not quite yet folks, as you can imagine, Wil and I have spent the best part of the last 10 days in ulu-dulu Ayers Rock and Cape Tribulation, so we’re dying to get our Asian fix! What to do, still Chinese at heart, after some burgers and pizza, we still need good old rice and noodles. Will talk soon!
