We’re Engaged!

Thursday, September 22nd, 2005

22 September 2005 — Ahhhhhh!!!!!! I know, I’m as shocked as all of you! Wasn’t meant to blog till I got home to Sydney, but then again, William is also not meant to be in Singapore, much less propose to me at The V Tea Room at the Esplanade last night?!!! Really have to thank Peiling for her 金马奖 performance (she came to pick me up from the airport, saying that we were going to meet our RV friends, high school mates), Jeff, Serene, Admund and Raymond for being the directors, camera crew and most of all, to help William 壮壮胆 so he doesn’t chicken out of it, haha! And also thanks to Fukky, and my parents for being there to celebrate the happy occasion.

So there Peiling and I were having drinks at this place, she excused herself to go to the bathroom, the waitress came over with a poster that said “Marry Me?”, I was blur for 2 nanoseconds, and before I knew what hit me, there William was with flowers and a whole “entourage” in tow. All I could do was gape… for what must have been an eternity… and yes, it’s all caught on camera.

Man! No Way lor, my Billie?!? My Billie?!? To pull off something like this?!!! I was talking to him just the night before in Shanghai, still thinking he was in Sydney?!? Turns out he’s been in Singapore since Sunday planning the entire thing and shopping for THE ring with my mum?!? Boy am I impressed!!! So all you girls out there who think your boyfriends are bores, or like mine, nerds, who don’t have an ounce of creative juice in their bodies, there’s hope yet.

Hee hee, so yah lor… we’re now in seventh heaven, and what better way than to celebrate with a few days in Singapore with all our favourite people and of course, makan, makan, makan! SHIOK!

Why No Blog?

Thursday, September 15th, 2005

Halo Everyone! So funny, yesterday got a message from Tommy to say that his friends are getting withdrawal syndrome ‘cos I have not been blogging. Wah… I actually have my own groupies… but actually sorry, but might have to keep you waiting for a little while more, ‘cos this not an actual “holiday” entry either. Just wanted to let everyone know that I’ve done my HK leg, and am now in Beijing.

Since the last day in Shanghai previously, I’ve actually been under the weather. Actually say oso very paiseh, but how I got sick is ‘cos I was too carried away with nabbing bargains at Xiang Yang market to pause for a drink of water, even though I was aware I was getting very thirsty, kept thinking: just one shop more, just one shop more… by the time I finally got a drink, it was six hours later, so in the end, sore throat lor, which escalated into a fever, flu, the whole shebang. Doesn’t help that I’m constantly breathing in polluted air in Shanghai, HK and now Beijing. Now left with a bitch of a cough, you know the kind that’s so super itchy it sends you into a coughing fit, and you cough and cough till it’s painful so at least it’s not itchy anymore. @£$%! Plus I’m so constipated it’s not funny. And I’m so “heaty” from eating so much junk that two days ago, in the middle of the night with no warning, my nostrils, yes plural, both sides, GUSHED with blood like there was no tomorrow! For a while there I feared I was going to pass out from anaemia! And to top it all off, while in HK, I had the MOTHER of a menstrual cramp! The MOTHER!

Wah lao… you tell me, where got mood to blog. Besides, though I was living the high life at the Marriott in HK, courtesy of Peiling, I didn’t have internet access. You know lah, with hotels, everything have to pay money, and now here in Beijing, I’m actually typing on a Powebook G4. Now I may be multi-talented, but I’m no MAC girl. Never ever had to use one my entire life! All the buttons are like Greek to me, and at 29, I’m just too old to start over ok?! Geez, I don’t even know how to pull out folders, let alone upload download photos, etc. It’s just too hard, too hard…

You’ll just have to wait, maybe Shanghai, doubt it, only 2 days there, and I’ll be too busy hanging out with Tommy and friends, doing last minute shopping, eating, etc, Maybe Singapore, not likely, too busy hanging out with friends, shopping, makan, Maybe Sydney… man… after this holiday, I’ll be so exhausted I’m just gonna crash… We’ll see.

National Treasures & Local Fashion

Saturday, September 3rd, 2005

1 September 2005 - Believe it or not, I finally made it to the Shanghai Museum today. Couldn’t be bothered with the whole bus then train routine, just grabbed a cab. But before touring the museum proper, first I settled lunch at the fastest-growing local fast-food chain: 永和大王. No you won’t find burgers and chips here, soy bean milk, Taiwanese style beef noodles and the like are served instead.

Buffet Spread…

Friday, September 2nd, 2005

More from my Laoba’s brand of humour: (please take no offense if you happen to like going for buffets or complain about your weight)

Hi girl,

Mum went for lunch buffet yesterday and it reminded me of ‘buffet spread’

The word means ‘woman with big bottom’. If you notice, most people and especially women who attend buffet lunch, buffet dinner or buffet where ever there are makan for ‘one price eat all you can’ are in the bigger size category. Why? Because you can keep on eating for 3 or 4 hours non stop. Also to make sure that it is value for their money, better if it is 10 times worth what they are paying. Worst of all is they will gather the same size gang and go together, eat and gossip for the whole 3 or 4 hours. (Eh Tommy, is my dad talking about us?!?)

That remind me of another thing.

Mum is now wearing clothing with size XL and she is not very please. (Erh… dunno if this part has been approved by my mum or not?!?) All women are born vain. Some are worse, like your mum. I have been hearing her talking about her weight for god knows when. (Oh, so it runs in the family! Now I know where I got it from!) She feel shy when she goes into a shop and the sales person ask for her size.

I think the manufacturing companies must change sizing to ‘ JS ‘, ‘ JM ‘ & ‘ JL ‘. ( J for JUMBO ) the vain can say ‘ junior ‘ so not so embrassing lor! Save on sewing cost and time - XL, XXL, XXXL or maybe next time XYZZZZL.

love,
dad

Philips Hair Dryer Contest

Friday, September 2nd, 2005

I’m proud to announce that my dad has just won a Philips Hairdryer contest. Here’s his e-mail to me to announce the happy news, and following that the story he submitted to Philips. He’s so funny and cute.

Hi Girl,

Believe it or not. This little good news came before William’s better news.

I received a phone call at about 11.00am today informing me that I had won a $99.00 Philips Salon Protect Hairdryer.

Imagined my surprised. I never ever, last thing to think about winning any prize in a contest. What more a short story of a ‘ Hairdryer experience ‘ (attached is the story) Knowing your dad ‘powderful England’. Always being corrected by mum or you everytime, most of the time and all the time.

Not bad heh! After god knows how long ago. My last prize collected was in which year? That contest was to guess the height of ‘King Kong’. At that time Cathay Theatre was playing “King Kong” and you had to guess the height of a polyfoam 3-D statue of the gorilla and I had won first prize. I remembered it was a $350.00 Yaohan voucher.

Now this short writing contest was in the ST supplement ‘Urban’ dated 25/08/2005 and today my name appeared in the same supplement together with another 4 more winners. They even email me to collect the prize between 01/09/05 - 08/09/05 at their Toa Payoh office. So fast
can collect prize and within a week of the contest. So lucky. He! he!

I think the 3rd lucky news is coming soon. Maybe it is for you? Everythings come in threes.

Love from dad.

Xu Jia Hui Labyrinth

Friday, September 2nd, 2005

31 August 2005 — Wow I finally went out on my own today! Was supposed to take Bus 931 to Xu Jia Hui, then change to the train from there to get to People’s Square where the museum is. Well, didn’t quite make it that far. At XJH, decided it was too late to go, and decided to explore that instead. Afterall, there’s supposed to be plenty to see at XJH as well, and surely we’ve all heard about its underground maze which is impossible to escape from…

So here I am at the Xu Jia Hui area

Jamu: Bagus Lagi Bagus

Thursday, September 1st, 2005

30 August 2005 — Today I’m taking it nice and easy (actually which day haven’t I?!?), just going for a relaxing Indonesian style massage with Lynn. Recommended by Norrita who’s their regular.

Upon stepping into Jamu, straight away you get transported to Bali, leaving all your Chinese worries aside…
